I'm gigging! + catching up

Hello! It's been a long time since I did my first one of these. Since I'm very much an enthusiasm-driven person, and my enthusiasm has recently been spread diffusely over several things, I have not had the inclination to contribute much to this. The best way to tackle this feels like a stream of consciousness thing?

It feels right to reach out now, though, as I have a few gig announcements coming up for London and this feels like the best place to share:

First up, I'm supporting Japanese experimental songwriter Aku Okakita at The Social on the 5th August, which is also my birthday. I will be DJing at the end and it will be fun, please help me celebrate.

Then on 29th August I'll be playing at Dash The Henge in Camberwell, which is also a very good record shop. It's one of those venues that is open to the street, which is ideal at that time of year.

There is more to share at a later date ;)

In terms of the last few months:

1) adopted two cats, who are beautifully sweet and wonky - one very sweet hyper and neurotic girly who is currently trying to fight my hair, one asthmatic prince who has probably been to finishing school.

2) finally got my head round the basics of Ableton and started gigging again! thank you if you saw me at Brighten the Corners in Ipswich, at the Magda Drozd gig at the Holloway in Norwich or supporting Pictish Trail at the John Peel Centre.

3) have been writing for Cantilever, a new music streaming service that's been described as a "Mubi for music" - thoroughly recommend you start a free trial and check out some of the essays and interviews that accompany their albums of the month. The most recent one I wrote is on Dean Blunt's BLACK METAL, hypnagogic pop, Simon Reynold's term conceptronica and whether we're beginning to lose the 2010s internet.

4) contracted new reading bug - I can thoroughly recommend Time of the Flies by Claudia Piñeiro (very thrilling, very funny, a bit Armstead Maupin x Patricia Highsmith), The Wax Child by Olga Ravn (a story about witches - feels very Crucible but her prose style and time-sense is absolutely wild and unique), Audrey Golden's Raincoats biography Shouting Out Loud is also THE new punk history tome to have
